The key element in Ray Bartkus' work is light. Light has always been one of the most influential means of impact in churches (and not only in churches, but also in mosques or synagogues). The magic of candles, stained glass, openwork, shadow play is possible only through light. The author uses modern technologies: LED bulbs, electronics for the time-tested effect. Dynamics of two different images (saint and human) in one plane, pixelization of portraits with light bulbs are eternal questions explored in contemporary art form: what a is human, humanity; what is a saint, holiness?
